Grubb Properties completes office lease-up of first new building in emerging Elizabeth Avenue District
1523 Elizabeth Avenue signs prominent architecture/design tenants at milestone mixed-use address

Grubb Properties, the local real estate developer behind the Elizabeth Avenue District revitalization and the emerging mixed-use neighborhood of Morrison in South Park, today announced that it has completely leased the office component of 1523 Elizabeth Avenue, the first ground-up mixed-use building in its high-profile Elizabeth Avenue project.

The new tenants are Clark Nexsen, an award-winning architecture, engineering and interior design firm recently recognized for the historic expansion and renovation of the Elizabeth Traditional Elementary School; and Tobin Design, a planning, architecture and design firm with practices ranging from private residences and performing arts facilities to educational campuses and a full range of commercial projects.

Tobin has leased 2170 square feet and will share the second floor with Grubb’s Charlotte office, which moved into the building upon its completion last December.  Clark Nexsen has signed for 13,185 square feet and will occupy the entire third floor.  Both spaces feature dramatic views up Elizabeth Avenue and Trade Street to the Uptown skyline.

“We’re very pleased with where we are on this building,” said Sal Cammarata, senior vice-president of Grubb Properties’ office division.  “We think both Tobin and Clark Nexsen are great fits for this building and location and will be very pleased, both with their space and with upcoming developments here on Elizabeth Avenue.  We’re in the final stages of predevelopment for the Whole Foods block at the corners of Elizabeth, Hawthorne and 4th Street; we’re right next door to Carpe Diem, one of Charlotte’s favorite restaurants; and the city begins work this fall to prepare the streets and sidewalks for the streetcar line from Uptown to Central Avenue.  Momentum is really starting to build.”

Caldwell Rose of Southern Real Estate represented Grubb Properties in the building.  Clark Nexsen was represented by Chris Burke of East Coast Commercial.
