GRUBB PROPERTIES WELCOMES “winestore.” TO MORRISON
Innovative retailer sets Grand Opening for June 16, promises fun, user-friendly experience based upon intuitive shopping environment and world-class wine expertise
CHARLOTTE, NC – June 13, 2006 - Grubb Properties, the local real estate developer behind the Elizabeth Avenue revitalization and the emerging mixed-use neighborhood of Morrison in South Park, today announced the planned Grand Opening of “winestore.” on June 16 at Morrison.
Winestore. – a fun, user-friendly shopping concept based upon intuitive product groupings, touchscreen selection assistance and the expertise of world-renowned wine experts – is the first tenant to open at Morrison. The store will occupy 1535 square feet on Morrison’s interior “main street” - immediately adjacent to Grubb Properties’ upcoming condominium sales center, two doors down from Varji & Varji’s next scheduled salon and spa, and directly across the street from Earth Fare’s second Charlotte location, now opening around the first of the year.
“We are excited about winestore. opening at Morrison,” Matthew Hartley, founder and chief executive, said. “The South Park location is unbeatable in terms of getting the right shoppers in to enjoy our unique wine-shopping experience, and Morrison is shaping up to be one of the most appealing mixed-use neighborhoods in the city. We think this is a great launching pad for a concept we’d like to expand regionally in the years to come.”
Doug Frost of Kansas City, one of only three people worldwide to hold both Master of Wine and Master Sommelier credentials, is providing inventory and product selection expertise as winestore.’s “official sommelier.” The store’s goal, based upon the wine shopping frustrations of founders Hartley and Keith Messick, is to enable anyone to feel comfortable quickly choosing an appropriate wine for any occasion based upon price, occasion, type of food and other simple variables.
The store promises to attract both wine experts and amateurs with a combination of expertly selected and focused inventory – only 150 or so selections at any one time, many from small, boutique wineries; a uniquely automated taste testing system, the first in North Carolina; and hip-but-not-intimidating interior design featuring polished concrete floors, recessed wall shelving behind translucent sliding panels, and vibrant colors throughout.
