The community joins Link Apartments℠ Linden in historic Glen Lennox, a master-planned community founded in 1950 by William Muirhead, a visionary entrepreneur and developer. Muirhead believed in the power of modern design to impact and improve society.

Link Apartments℠ Calyx

Once home to our founder (and current CEO’s father), Robert Grubb, Grubb Properties purchased Glen Lennox in 1986. Since then, we’ve worked closely with residents and the surrounding community to develop and execute a transformational 20-year plan for the community. The program respects Glen Lennox’s history while modernizing it for long-term success. In addition to much-needed essential housing, we added new retail and office space, and better infrastructure for biking and pedestrian access.

Link Apartments℠ Calyx Community

The seven-story, 304-unit community is located at the intersection of Lanark and Maxwell. The modern building design features a saltwater pool, co-working space, 24/7 fitness and yoga center, a parking garage, and a rooftop resident lounge. The apartments boast smart, efficient floorplans, stainless steel ENERGY STAR appliances, oversized windows, and built-in shelving.

Mid-Century Roots

Calyx Mid-Century Roots

Like Link Apartments℠ Linden, Link Apartments℠ Calyx is named for a vibrant textile pattern from British designer Lucienne Day, whose mid-century fabrics became iconic worldwide in the post-war era. Her textile designs were inspired by nature and the works of contemporary artists, including Juan Miro and Paul Klee. The “Calyx” name is a nod to the mid-century roots of Glen Lennox, also referenced in the architecture and décor of the community.

A Focus on Sustainability

Calyx Focus on Sustainability

Link Apartments℠ Calyx is aiming for a National Green Building Standard (NGBS) Silver Certificate, which the neighboring Link Apartments℠ Linden community has already earned. NGBS is the only green building rating system for homes and apartments approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Properties are graded on six levels: energy efficiency, water efficiency, resource efficiency, lot development, operation and maintenance, and indoor environmental quality.

In keeping with Grubb Properties' emphasis on alternative transportation, residents of Link Apartments℠ Calyx have numerous alternatives to driving. Biking and transport mobility have been a part of the Glen Lennox vision from the beginning. Grubb Properties worked with Copenhagenize, a leading bike planning firm out of Denmark, to ensure that Glen Lennox residents can access everything they need without a car. The city of Chapel Hill was instrumental in implementing these plans.
