“My dream is to have a decent affordable home that my children can thrive and know that we are able to play in the yard, and feel safe at night.” - 2023 Lexington, NC Habitat for Humanity Homeowner
The Brown family is looking forward to a great 2024, when they’ll move into their new home in Lexington, NC, constructed by the Grubb Giving Project and Habitat for Humanity, Lexington.
The Brown family have been living in a two-bedroom home, where they’ve dealt with a lack of heat and air conditioning, rodent issues, and neighborhood crime. Brown could not be more excited to move into their new Habitat house: “Knowing that Grubb is collaborating with Habitat to build my new home is a dream come true!” she said.
The Lexington home is the sixth house Grubb Properties has built with Habitat for Humanity over the past six years, joining homes in Winston-Salem, Greenville, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, and Atlanta. More than 30 Grubb Properties employees volunteered at the site, working alongside 20 employees of sponsor companies and other Habitat volunteers. All Grubb Properties employees receive up to 48 hours of paid time off to dedicate to volunteer activities, and many devote these hours to the Habitat project.
Grubb Properties extends our sincere thanks to our partners who helped to sponsor this home, including: Yardi Services; Bob and Rochelle Grubb Fund; Apple, Koceja & Associates; Ram Pavement; Pesta, Finnie and Associates LLP; Truist National Real Estate/McGriff Insurance; Southern Energy Management; Clifford Chance US LLP; Rivers Agency; Adyen Inc; Mainline Plumbing; Total Quality Building Services Inc.; Smith Harris Design Associates; EMCOR Services Air conditioning; and Windermere Insurance Group LLC.
The Grubb Properties' team also hosted a charity basketball tournament to help fund the project. Eighteen players hit the courts, along with team member referees and color commentators, and the competition was live-streamed throughout the company. The team captained by Vice President, Operations Jason Rushing won the tournament, while Kathleen Babb, leasing agent at Link Apartments℠ Mint Street, was named MVP. The event raised almost $1,400, making Habitat for Humanity the biggest winner.
